Australian investigators are probing a runway incursion at Perth airport on 28 April involving two Qantas operated Boeing 737-800s.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau says that one of the 737s, registered VH-XZM, had landed on runway 03 and exited on taxiway J2. Although it was required to hold short of the intersecting runway 06, it came to a stop just past the holding point.
Another 737, VH-VZL, had commenced its take-off roll on runway 06, and the controller instructed the crew to stop immediately. They conducted a rejected take-off, and came to a stop near taxiway J2.
“The area where the incident occurred is annotated on the En Route Supplement Australia (ERSA) as a runway incursion ‘hot spot’. The holding point on taxiway J2 prior to runway 06 is marked with a runway stop bar,” the Bureau adds.
The ATSB categorised the incident as serious, and will interview the flight crew and controllers involved, and gather additional data. It expects to complete its investigation by the second quarter of 2019.
