Qantas Airways and its low-cost subsidiary Jetstar have again cancelled all trans-Tasman flights and some domestic Australian flights today due to the ash cloud from Chile's Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcano eruption.
Qantas has scrapped all trans-Tasman flights as well as flights to and from Tasmania. It has cancelled all services to and from Adelaide until 12:30, said the Oneworld carrier.
Jetstar has also dropped all trans-Tasman and domestic New Zealand flights and its Singapore-Auckland service today. Like Qantas, it is also not operating to and from Adelaide until 12:30, and will not operate to and from Tasmania until 13:00. It will provide a further update on Tasmania operations later today, it said.
Qantas and Jetstar also cancelled all trans-Tasman services yeserday, as well as some domestic Australian services and international flights.
Air New Zealand (ANZ), which has been operating its flights, said it will continue to operate to schedule today.
"The authorities are providing excellent information about the ash which is at high altitude and very predictable in its movement. By adjusting cruising altitudes of our aircraft we are able to continue to safely deliver customers to their destinations," said ANZ's general manager airline operations and safety and chief pilot David Morgan.
Other carriers like Cathay Pacific Airways, AirAsia X, Emirates and Malaysia Airlines are operating normally into New Zealand, they said.
