European rail operators have thrown down another gauntlet with the introduction of a high-speed TGV service linking Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. Operating under the name Thalys, the service will eventually reduce the rail journey time between Paris and Amsterdam from 5 hours 20 minutes to just under four hours.
