The US Air Force has "expressed interest" in an out-of-production laser-guided missile to strike moving ground targets, Raytheon said on 16 August.
The AGM-65E Maverick is a high-speed, air-to-ground missile in use with the US Marine Corps, but never before ordered by the air force.
The service is seeking the laser-guided Maverick to attack moving vehicles, Raytheon says.
The Maverick has been due to be replaced for several years, but the Joint Common Missile programme was put on hold and the replacement Joint Air to Ground Missile remains in the pre-development phase.
