Osaka Kansai International airport is moving towards a return to normal operations, as it repairs damage caused by recent flooding and airlines gradually return flights.
The airport operator says, at present, only Terminal 2 is in operation, while Terminal 1 is expected to resume operations within a week while drainage work is completed. Only runway B is open, with drainage work still taking place on runway A.
Peach operated seven international departures and five arrivals at the airport on 8 September, as well as 15 domestic services.
It adds that its full schedule will be gradually resumed, and advised passengers to keep up-to-date with the latest information from Kansai airport.
Spring Airlines and Japan Airlines are also operating limited services, but All Nippon Airways’ flights remain suspended until 13 September. The Star Alliance carrier has also suspended sales of flights to and from Kansai until 19 September.
Jetstar Japan’s Kansai flights remain cancelled until 11 September, as do those of Jetstar Pacific and Jetstar Airways, although they are assessing if flights may restart from 12 September.
The airport says that while the cargo area sustained substantial damage, FedEx has been able to operate some freighter services into the airport, and repairs are underway.
Kansai airport was hit by severe flooding on 4 September, caused by storm surges ahead of the arrival of Typhoon Jebi.
