Plans to regulate and standardise the training received by engineers at maintenance and repair organisation (MRO) sites in the USA have been delayed until next year.Appropriate material has not yet been made available to individual stations to help them develop approved training programmes. They will now have until 6 April next year. Some engineers' organisations, including the Aircraft Electronics Association, have suggested the new rules might mean increased expense and bureaucracy for smaller MROs, and could damage the prospects of engineers who have learnt their skills on the job and through self-tuition, rather than through recognised schemes.
