A $20million Romanian defence systems contract has been won by AAI Corporation. Romania is to purchase an AAI Shadow 600 unmanned air vehicle (UAV) system and a Moving Target Simulator (MTS) short-range air defence training package under the contract, the first to be financed under the US Defense Export Loan Guarantee Program.
The programme, introduced last November, is designed to put US defence companies on an equal footing with international competitors for access to favourable loans.
Richard Erkeneff, AAI president and CEO, says the contract demonstrates the growing worldwide interest in UAV and training systems.
"They provide affordable, off-the-shelf capability. We are currently pursuing a number of additional opportunities and focusing on expanding our presence in the international marketplace."
