Oh dear. It seems your Uncle got so carried away in his enthusiasm over the VC-tenderness special the other week, he completely forgot to check his spelling. Nephew David Thirlwall spotted that the article said the "rock solid" ride was experienced during a recent "fight" with 10 Squadron. Unfortunately, owing to a pending D Notice from the Ministry of War and Incredibly Noisy Planes, I cannot reveal the true nature of 10 Squadron's covert role as a secret strike unit. Its courageous task as the UK's long-range, deep penetration force will, owing to reasons of national security, be kept strictly hush-hush. Instead I shall swallow my pride and pretend it was - after all - just a spelling mistake!
On a happier note, nephew Dennis Wills and fellow "VC-tenner" wishes it known that for the first flight of this magnificent aircraft, a 400ft-angled extension was made to Brooklands runway at the northern end to give it a rolling start. Could this could be the engineering DNA (in reverse) of the famous angled flightdeck of later years, or am I inclined to be wrong?
