The Romanian air force's 100th MiG-21 to be upgraded to Lancer configuration has been delivered, according to Aerostar of Romania and Elbit Systems of Israel.
The two companies have upgraded 110 examples of the aircraft for the air arm, of which 102 have now been delivered. The refurbished fleet has completed more than 30,000 flights. The $300 million upgrade sees extensive changes made to Romania's MiG-21MF and bis models, equipping the cockpits with new avionics including a helmet-mounted sight, Elop HUD, HOTAS and colour multi-function displays. Of the fleet, 75 Lancer As are being produced for ground attack duties with EL/M2001B radar, while 25 Lancer Cs intended for air defence have an EL/M-2032 multimode pulse-Doppler radar.
Israeli ECM and weapons systems are also fitted. The aircraft is now NATO-compatible. An example of the Lancer is at the show.
