IAG boss Willie Walsh warned airports during World Routes today that the days are over of simply transferring their cost burden to airlines by raising prices.
Some airports “don’t get it” when it comes to being cost-competitive, says Walsh.
He points to London Heathrow, which has been challenged by IAG, the UK government and the UK Civil Aviation Authority to undertake its expansion without raising passenger costs.
"This is the first time they’ve had to justify the cost of expansion," states Walsh. "In the past, it would have been ‘let’s spend as much money as we can and we’ll just transfer all the costs to the airline, and those dumb f**kers will just keep paying’. Those days are over. We’re not going to do that anymore.”
