Tupolev design bureau has completed the certification programme for the Westernised version of the Tupolev Tu-204-120CE aircraft, a batch of which are bound for delivery to Chinese carriers.
From 3 May until 3 August the twin-jet, powered by Rolls-Royce RB211 engines and equipped with an English-language cockpit incorporating Honeywell avionics, conducted 21 test flights totalling 36hr 40min.
Representatives of the European aviation safety agency (EASA) observed the certification programme to ensure that the aircraft met its airworthiness standards. Tupolev says the Tu-204-120CE also meets noise and emissions requirements set by Eurocontrol.
Following customer acceptance trials, the freighter will be handed over to Air China Cargo in September. Four more of the type are scheduled for delivery over the next year
