Russian arms sales agency Promexport has finalised a deal with Algeria to supply 22 used Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer fighter bombers.
Two of the Su-24s will be delivered at the end of this month with the remainder to follow by the end of June next year. The deal is valued at $120 million.
The variable-geometry bombers are being overhauled at the NAPO factory in Novosibirsk, where the majority of the type were built. Ten aircraft in the NAPO workshops have been taken from Russian air force storage bases.
Promexport general director Sergey Chemezov says the latest move follows the delivery last year of three Su-24Ms to Algeria in a $12 million deal. Russian reports suggest that Zvezda-Strela Kh-35 anti-ship missiles - broadly equivalent to the Boeing Harpoon are included in the deal, although it is not clear whether they are the air- launched AS-20 Kayak (3M24) or ship-launched SS-N-25 Switchblade (3M60 Uran) version. Algeria is thought to have equipped warships with the SS-N-25.
Promexport specialises in the sale of the Russian military's surplus weapons. It is expecting $340 million in sales this year.
