Eurocontrol has selected an Aerodata/ARINC team to collect and analyse aircraft height-keeping performance data to support implementation of reduced vertical separation minimum (RVSM) in European Civil Aviation Conference airspace. RVSM is set for introduction between flight levels 290 (29,000ft/8,850m) and 410 from January 2002, yielding at least a 20% rise in airspace capacity. ARINC will establish an RVSM Operations Control Centre near London Gatwick. Only aircraft with altimetry meeting certain accuracy requirements will be allowed at RVSM levels.
