Irish budget carrier Ryanair has acquired a Boeing 737-700 which the airline intends to use as a training aircraft.
Ryanair operates a fleet of 737-800s rather than the smaller -700 variant.
It says it has “purchased” the 16-year old twinjet (EI-SEV) as a crew-training aircraft.
“This is a further investment by Ryanair in our industry-leading safety and training programmes,” it adds.
The jet has been operated by several carriers – among them Azzurra Air, Maersk Air, Sterling and LAN Colombia, according to Flightglobal’s Ascend Fleets database.
Ryanair says the -700 will also “provide back-up for our peak-period schedules in case of technical delays”.
