The latest event occurred on 5 November and involved a Boeing 737-500 which suffered failure of one of its CFM International CFM56 engines while en route from Lagos to Owerri in southern Nigeria.
Nigeria’s Accident Investigation Bureau says the crew informed air traffic control of the failure about 12min after its departure.
The aircraft returned to Lagos where it landed safely. None of the 90 passengers and six crew members was injured.
Investigators have identified the airframe involved as 5N-BUJ. This aircraft is a 1997 example, originally delivered to Maersk Air and subsequently operated by carriers including Russia’s Aurora, according to Cirium fleets data.
The bureau says it is seeking any video footage or other evidence relating to the incident.
It is already undertaking investigations into three other Air Peace Boeing 737 events since May, including a landing excursion, an engine pod-strike, and a hard touchdown which resulted in loss of the nose-wheels.
