Investigators will be examining whether poor weather conditions contributed to the apparent runway excursion by an Aeromexico Connect Embraer 190 during departure from Durango.
Images from the scene of the accident show both engines detached from the aircraft during the accident sequence before it came to rest some 400m off the end of runway 03.
The airport had been experiencing thunderstorm activity and rain around the time of the departure, according to meteorological data from the airport.
No fatalities resulted from the 31 July accident involving flight AM2431 to Mexico City. The aircraft had been transporting 99 passengers and four crew members, says the Mexican transportation ministry.
Among the injured was the captain of the aircraft, who has been treated in hospital, it adds.
Aeromexico says the 10-year old aircraft (XA-GAL) has been operating as part of the carrier’s fleet since 2014.
It states that it is “closely collaborating” with the investigating authorities, particularly the Mexican air transport regulator DGAC, to establish the cause of the accident.
