Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Boeing for the manufacturer's Connexion broadband in-flight internet and e-mail services. SAS joins British Airways, Japan Air Lines and Lufthansa as Connexion customers. The airline is to offer Connexion initially on 11 long-haul aircraft from 2004, with additional aircraft options. SAS had originally planned to test a wireless, narrowband e-mail/internet solution from Connexion competitor Tenzing, but that plan fell through in the post-11 September downturn. The new customer comes as Connexion gains more approvals for its ku-band services. The latest regulatory approvals come from Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands and Norway, and will allow Boeing to launch the first Connexion trials with BA and Lufthansa next year.
