SAS has filed for antitrust immunity on its North Atlantic routes with its alliance with Icelandair.

The two carriers have been codesharing since the beginning of the year but now want to increase the level of co-operation.

In a statement, SAS said: "For the two companies, an approval means possibilities to broaden and deepen their transatlantic co-operation in order to improve the efficiency of their co-ordinated services, expand the benefits available to the travelling public and enhance their ability to compete in the marketplace." The move also strengthens Icelandair's ties to Star, although the carrier has said it has no plans to join the alliance
