Dunlop Aerospace Precision Rubber of the UK has announced the commissioning of an in-house fire-testing facility. Designed to test and qualify the company's own range of fire seals, it is located in Stockport, northern England.

The company makes elastomeric seals for airframes and engines, offering a range over 300 fire and vapour barriers, differential-pressure and inflatable seals, as well as door and window seals.

The new facility is approved by the UK CAA to conduct certification testing for flammability, smoke emission, rate of heat release, and toxic gas emission. Dunlop says it will significantly speed development by allowing tests of successive prototypes without the delays involved in submitting them to a third-party facility.

The site will also be used to test other manufacturers' products, including aircraft interior furnishings, engine fire seals and ancillary components such as fuel and oil pumps and hydraulic systems.

Tests can be carried out to the specifications of the CAA, the FAA, Airbus, Boeing and individual customers.
