When Ken Goldsmith isn’t hustling around the country at the controls of his own CitationJet or overseeing the affairs of his two companies, he’s preaching the virtues of the Dassault Falcon 50 engine upgrade that he has developed with Honeywell and joint-venture partner Premier Air Centre of Illinois.
Trademarked 50Dash4, the upgrade involves removing the Honeywell TFE731-3-1C and TFE731-3D-1C engines that are standard on the Falcon 50, shipping them to Honeywell for rework, and reinstalling them in their new TFE731-4-1C guise.
Result – a Falcon 50Dash4 with up to 26 per cent more range, and payload-range increased at all elevations and runway lengths.
With a background in business jet upgrades dating back to 1977, Goldsmith explains how his new-engines-for-old proposition came about. “Take a great airframe with plenty of service life. Add a proven engine with higher performance, better fuel economy and increased durability, and you’ve got an offer that should appeal to a plenty of operators.”
Goldsmith and his partners are working closely with Honeywell despite the availability of the latter’s similar Dash 40 offering. “Our 50Dash4 gives 70 per cent of the performance of the Dash 40 upgrade at a very attractive price,” says Goldsmith. “We’re aiming at owners who want more range and extra performance for operations from hot/high and hot/short fields.”
50Dash4 includes a three-year/ l,800-hour warranty and will bring the operator lower Maintenance Service Programme (MSP) power-by-the-hour rates.
