Workers at Bombardier's Shorts UK factory in Northern Ireland returned to work last week following a five-day strike, after management agreed to halt redundancies and changes to the shift system. Unions called the strike after Bombardier said that 100 planned redundancies would be planned to minimise costs, rather than being voluntary, as agreed earlier this year; the company also planned to transfer night-shift workers on to a lower-paid afternoon shift. Bombardier says it will impose no more redundancies before March, and has agreed to discuss higher pay for the afternoon shift with unions in negotiations.
