The Airbus A380 had a trouble-free debut last week, with Singapore Airlines completing the first commercial services of the ultra-large aircraft between its Changi airport base in Singapore and Sydney.

The flight (SQ380) took off from Changi as scheduled at 08:00 on 25 October, touching down in Sydney shortly before 17:30 after a flight of nearly 7.5h. The aircraft's departure from Sydney the following day was slightly delayed due to weather.

Most of the seats on the first flights were sold through an auction for charity and normal revenue services were due to begin on 28 October on the same Singapore-Sydney route as SQ221 outbound and SQ220 for the return. Services to London Heathrow Tokyo Narita will begin after SIA takes delivery of more aircraft in the first quarter of 2008.
