Airbus and SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC) will begin operations of their new joint venture in December.

The new company will be named Heavy Maintenance Singapore Services (HMS Services), and its incorporation follows approval by the Competition Commission of Singapore.

"The new company will provide airframe maintenance, cabin upgrade and modification services for Airbus A380, A350 and A330 aircraft to airlines in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond," say the companies in a joint statement. "HMS Services will work with Airbus to be designated as the manufacturer's centre of excellence for heavy maintenance for the A350 and A380 in the region."

It will lease two aircraft hangar bays from SIAEC and expand to include another two bays in the next six years.

HMS Services is 65% owned by SIAEC, with Airbus holding the remaining equity stake.
