A new flight-planning module promising fuel savings of up to 2% was launched by Lufthansa Systems at the show.

The add-on to Lido Operations Center makes automated checks of a potential routing relative to current air traffic capacity and flow management rules. These rules, also known as traffic flow restrictions (TER), are set by air traffic control authorities to ensure smooth traffic flow while optimising capacity and security.

"Airlines have to check their preferred routings against the latest ATC rules," says Lufthansa Systems chief executive Asia Pacific, Norbert Mueller. "If there is a TFR in place, they must manually replan a route."

The module does this automatically, considering even partly restricted airways, suggesting by-passes where permitted, for the best airway combination.
