Buecking to lead SITA

Peter Buecking, who has led the oneworld alliance executive since it was formed in April 2000, is to become the new president of SITA. He will take up the position in Geneva in July, with oneworld expected to name his successor shortly.

Buecking's appointment is part of a restructuring at SITA, which will see the organisation split into two divisions: the core SITA SC, network provider, headed by a new director general, and the commercial SITA INC. applications business with a new managing director. At the centre, Buecking will be responsible for group-wide growth strategy, customer relationship management and government and industry relations.

Buecking, 58, has spent 30 years in the airline business, 17 of them with Cathay Pacific, latterly as sales and marketing director. He led Cathay into oneworld and was founder member of the alliance's management team.

Buecking is the main successor to retiring John Watson, who is both director general SITA SC and managing director SITA INC.
