The European Commission hopes to have its proposals on slot regulations ready by late spring. Transport Commissioner Loyola de Palacio is looking at a draft version which revives the idea of a mechanism by which new or unused slots that have been returned to the pool are allocated over a set term of 10 years. In January, de Palacio indicated that she wanted immediate progress on a technical level plus a longer-term debate on how to resolve the fundamental mismatch of supply and demand for airport capacity.
