France's SMA has just completed the first series of test-bench runs as part of its programme to develop a new generation of Morane Renault piston engines which run on Jet A1 kerosene.

The engines range from 180-300hp (130-220kW) and will be used on single or twin-engined aircraft and light helicopters. The company says they will radically reduce direct operating costs while improving performance and TBO.

The first flight is scheduled in a few weeks. The engine has been installed on a TB20 Trinidad and has proven successful in running and roll-out tests held in January.
