A US Air Force Boeing F-15 successfully dropped on 22 April an inert Boeing Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) with an active fuze on a test range at Eglin AFB, Florida, striking close to the pole aimpoint. The test marks the first SDB drop during the formal development phase, Boeing SDB programme manager Dan Jaspering told Flight International. The fuze, adapted from devices used on the Raytheon AIM-9X and Javelin missiles, has been supplied by L-3 Communications unit KDI Precision Products. A Thales multi-event fuze may be substituted for foreign orders, says Jaspering.
