Airbus A380 has taken a step closer to flight readiness with Smiths Aerospace delivering the A380 landing gear extension and retraction system flight test hardware to Toulouse.

The system includes both the mechanical engineering and electronic control solutions for the landing gear deployment system.

Smiths is responsible for the fully integrated system that will control the aircraft's nose, main and wing landing gears, including the sequencing and operation of the associated door components.

John Ferrie, Smiths Aerospace president, says: "By integrating our mechanical and electronic capabilities we provide both the brain and the muscle to deploy and retract the A380's landing gear. We are committed to a long and successful relationship with Airbus."
