Smiths Aerospace has been chosen to supply electro-mechanical actuators (EMA) for Northrop Grumman Unmanned Systems' unmanned air vehicle (UAV) programmes.

The EMAs will be used on programmes such as the Fire Scout vertical take-off UAV, Global Hawk high altitude long endurance UAV and the BQM-74F target drone.

Smiths says the potential EMA value on these platforms is $20 million, with a long-term multi-platform value of nearly $50 million.
