Russian cosmonaut Yevgeny Khrunov died on May 19, at the age of 66. Khrunov was one of the first 20 Soviet cosmonauts selected in 1960 but did not fly until 1969 as a crew member of Soyuz 5. Khrunov and Alexei Yelesyev made the second Soviet spacewalk, transferring to Soyuz 4. Khrunov was back-up commander of Soyuz 38. Khrunov and Yeleseyev were the first to land in a different craft to that in which they were launched.
