US company SpaceDev, developer of the Shuttle-like Dreamchaser transportation system, has been awarded a contract by the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL).

Under the NRL’s Operationally Responsive Space Payload Technology broad agency announcement, Spacedev will design the Combined Optical, Radio and Radar Instrument.

It’s designed for a small satellite to use a sensitive proximity radar and deliver high resolution optical, infra-red imagery with a high-gain broadband radio frequency datalink.
