SR Technics Switzerland could bundle service contracts as part of new Airbus aircraft sales. The Swiss branch of the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) group has signed a non-binding general-terms agreement with Airbus giving it de facto preferred-supplier status, writes Justin Wastnage.

The collaboration, which stems from an SR Technics study into lowering operational costs through maintenance efficiencies, will see the Zurich-based company referenced for all new customers. SR Technics Switzerland president Tim Talaat expects to sign MRO contracts with many small and medium-sized airlines as a result. "It's like being an automobile authorised service centre - if you're new to the product, you'd rather go to the garage recommended by the manufacturer than find your own," he says.

Talaat also says the deal may be the first step towards a deepening relationship that could lead to the bundling of service contracts with the purchase of new Airbus aircraft.
