Swiss maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) specialist SR Technics is pushing ahead with plans to expand its presence in Asia with a new maintenance and technical services joint venture in Shanghai.

Shanghai SR Aircraft Technics, a new company formed by SR Technics and Shanghai Foreign Aviation Service Corporation (Shanghai FASCO) will begin operating at Shanghai international airport in April.

The company will initially provide line maintenance, technical training and consulting services, but intends to expand operations to incorporate other airports in the region and additional products and services at a later stage, SR Technics says.

The company is in talks over providing services to several airlines based in China and elsewhere.

SR Technics chief executive Hans Lerch says the deal will give SR Technics the opportunity to “increase our presence in China as we put an even stronger focus on the Asia-Pacific region.”

SR Technics will provide line maintenance and technical training expertise for the joint venture, while Shanghai FASCO specialises in airline services.
