Cebu Pacific Air will expand its network out of Clark and Cebu this year, as it seeks to build on those two hubs.
Out of Clark International airport, it will commence daily services to Iloilo and Bacolod from 9 August, and also a daily service to Puerto Princesa a month later.
“There’s still a lot of opportunities for expansion within the Philippines – inter-island connections from key cities like Clark and Cebu. We believe there is a significant untapped market in northern provinces in the Philippines,” says the low-cost carrier’s chief operations officer Michael Shau.
“Creating direct links between domestic destinations and our other hubs will spur tourism and movement of goods and investments, whilst doing away with having to pass through the main hub in Manila.”
He adds that the carrier is also “in the final stages” of launching a new route between Cebu and mainland China, with details to be released imminently. The target is to ramp-up capacity out of its Cebu hub by up to 20% this year, with its network focused on North Asia markets like China, Korea and Japan.
Cirium schedules data shows that Cebu Pacific largely operates domestic services out of Clark, with Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau its only international points. Out of Cebu, its international network spans Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Seoul and Tokyo.
Philippine Airlines is the largest operator out of Clark, accounting for 34% of all seats, compared to Cebu Pacific’s 19% share, schedules show. At Cebu, it also falls behind PAL’s 28% share, with a 27% holding.
