An IndiGo Airbus A320neo had to make an emergency landing on 11 December due to smoke in the cabin.
The incident occurred when the aircraft, registered VT-ITR, was operating the Jaipur-Kolkata route. The airline says it made an emergency landing as a precaution “due to suspected smoke in cabin”.
The jet landed without further incident at Kolkata and some passengers were evacuated via emergency slides at the aft exit.
Videos on social media show smoke towards the front of the aircraft, and flight attendants armed with fire extinguishers.
The airline adds that there was “no earlier report of any malfunction” with the aircraft. It did not reply to queries on what caused the smoke, and whether the aircraft has returned to service.
Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that the Pratt & Whitney PW1127G-powered aircraft was built in 2017 and owned and managed by IndiGo.
