Qantas group chief financial officer Tino La Spina will become chief executive of the carrier’s international unit from 1 October.
The changeover has been timed to allow La Spina to close out the financial year that ends on 30 June, and through to the release of the airline’s annual report, Qantas says.
Until then, acting Qantas International chief executive Narendra Kumar will continue to serve in that role, following the abrupt departure of Alison Webster in late April.
“Tino has been with Qantas for 13 years in a series of senior finance roles, which has given him a detailed understanding of what drives results in each part of the group,” commented group chief executive Alan Joyce.
Once the transition is complete, group chief customer officer Vanessa Hudson will become Qantas's chief financial officer. From mid-May, she will be CFO designate, working closely with La Spina to ensure a smooth transition.
“Vanessa started with Qantas 24 years ago in finance and audit, before moving to senior roles in inflight services, commercial planning, sales and distribution, and regional head of Qantas in the US. It means she brings a deep understanding of our business as well as a strong background in finance to the role of CFO,” says Joyce.
A recruitment process to appoint a new chief customer officer will commence shortly, the Oneworld carrier adds.
