Russian authorities have granted type certification to the PowerJet SaM146 powerplant, manufactured for the Sukhoi Superjet 100.
The SaM146, built through a joint venture between Snecma and NPO Saturn, has obtained certification from the Russian Interstate Aviation Committee's aviation registry arm.
European certification for the engine was granted in mid-June.
NPO Saturn managing director Ilya Fyodorov says the development is essential to implementing the companies' production and delivery plans for the engine - notably because Russian and CIS carriers are set to be first in line to receive the Superjet.
Cross-certification conducted in parallel with the European Aviation Safety Agency meant that no additional tests were needed to obtain Russian approval following the EASA clearance two months ago.
