Airbus is expanding its customer facility for A350 cabin configurations in Hamburg to cover the A320 and A330 series.
In 2014, Airbus opened the "Customer Definition Centre" for the A350 at its plant in the German city. The centre has thus far been used exclusively for the long-haul twinjet programme.
Now, the manufacturer says it will convert an adjacent hangar to accommodate a two-storey facility for A320 and A330 customers to specify the cabin interiors of their aircraft.
Construction work is set to begin "soon", and scheduled for completion within two years, says Airbus.
Like the existing facility, the expanded site will include functional "playrooms" to test cabin equipment, plus design studios, virtual-reality areas and mock-ups with interior installations.
"Many of our A350 XWB customer airlines also operate the A320 and the A330," states Airbus executive vice-president of programmes Didier Evrard. "Customers are able to define their aircraft interior and give us feedback on innovations. At the same time, Airbus can harmonise the cabin definition process."
