Rockwell Collins wants to help airlines understand how they can deliver a seamless connected experience for their passengers throughout all points of their journey.
Joel Otto, vice-president strategy and business development at Rockwell Collins’ information management services division, says the company’s 80-year history means it is well placed to help airlines transition to the world of opportunities made available by in-flight connectivity.
“Our nose-to-tail ability to take all the data and information coming off the aircraft helps airlines manage this transition over time,” says Otto.
With in-flight connectivity now commonplace on many airlines, the next step is “what services can you layer on top of that?” says Otto. “How do you choreograph the whole journey of the passenger from the moment they hit the kerb?”
Looking to the future, Otto envisions “an ecosystem of information exchange” that will “evolve year over year” to make life easier for passengers by, for instance, letting them know while they’re in the air how to best spend their time at an airport during a layover.
