Bombardier is considering offering a modified version of its CSeries aircraft health management system (AHMS) on CRJ regional jets and Q400 turboprops, the manufacturer's vice-president of customer services Todd Young tells FlightGlobal.
"We are looking… to see if we can take advantage of that investment [and] roll the aircraft health management system back on the CRJ and Q400 products," Young says. "It would never be as elaborate as [on the] CSeries, but we are looking to see if we can take advantage of that technology."
The CSeries' AHMS collects data from a variety of aircraft systems, including avionics, flight controls, the fly-by-wire system, landing gear, the brake system, the environmental control system, thrust reversers, engines and auxiliary power unit, according to Bombardier documents.
The system can download data automatically, or crew can manually push data to ground sources through the aircraft's aircraft communications addressing and reporting system (ACARS), Young notes.
If Bombardier modifies the health management system for CRJs and Q400s, it will likely make the product available on new aircraft and as a retrofit on existing aircraft, Young says.
