Comac has received the production certificate for its ARJ21-700 regional jet, more than 2.5 years after the aircraft received type certification.
This was presented to the Chinese manufacturer by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in a ceremony on 9 July, signifying that the aircraft can now enter batch production.
In a statement, Comac says the certification shows that its quality assurance system meets the requirements of the CAAC, and also lays the foundation for the batch production of other aircraft types going forward.
It also disclosed that it made an application for batch production in December 2014, around the time the GE Aviation CF34-10A-powered jet received type certification.
The production certificate comes just weeks after the ARJ21 completed its first year of commercial operations with launch operator Chengdu Airlines, which has two examples in service.
Comac had been on a mission to upgrade the jet following feedback from Chengdu Airlines and the CAAC. The CAAC listed several improvements Comac need to make to earn a production certificate.
Comac aims to deliver five ARJ21s to Chengdu Airlines this year. The manufacturer has so far received commitments for 413 of the type.
