Airbus has conducted the maiden flight with the first A320neo to be produced at its Chinese plant in Tianjin.
The aircraft is due to be delivered to AirAsia, rather than a Chinese customer.
Airbus confirms the first flight of the initial Chinese-built A320neo took place on 11 October and that the delivery will take place "in the coming weeks".
AirAsia selected the CFM International Leap-1A powerplant for its A320neos.
It has orders for 304 A320neos – of which 11 have been handed over from other Airbus production centres – plus orders for 100 of the larger A321neo.
