Lufthansa has revealed details of its next business-class seat, to be introduced on the airline's on-order Boeing 777X twinjets.
The Star Alliance carrier says the seats will be installed in 1-1-1 and 1-2-1 layouts on the widebodies, giving passengers a choice between seats with more working room "or a higher degree of privacy".
Lufthansa adds that passengers can pick from "a number of spatial configurations – for instance, they can choose to have an extended-length bed or a seat with twice as much deskspace".
Beds of 2.2m (86.6in) in length will be available, it says. In addition, the seat backs will be constructed in such a way that "makes it possible for the shoulder to sink in when you are lying on your side".
The seat has been exclusively developed for the carrier "with the goal of facilitating the best and soundest sleep up above the clouds".
Executive board member Harry Hohmeister states that the seat will provide a "unique travel experience".
Passengers will be able to control its functions and in-flight entertainment system via their own digital devices.
Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that Lufthansa has 20 777-9s on order, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2020.
The carrier confirmed earlier this year that its 777-9 fleet would not be fitted with first-class seats.
Business-class seats on in-service aircraft used for "long" intercontinental flights will be equipped from 2018 with newly developed mattresses, Lufthansa says.
