Thai Airways International has reached a tentative deal with Airbus to establish a new maintenance operation at U-Tapao.
The agreement is in the form of a memorandum of understanding.
But Airbus says the operation would provide heavy and line maintenance services to a “wide range” of aircraft types.
Its capabilities would include composite repair, use of drones to examine aircraft and digital technology to analyse maintenance data.
Thai Airways acting president Usanee Sangsingkeo says the airline has been looking at “several potential partners” with which to set up an MRO business.
Sangsingkeo adds that the facility will be a “showcase maintenance hub” for the region.
