Virgin Australia has kicked off passenger trials of its Gogo 2Ku wi-fi system aboard one of its Boeing 737-800s.
The test will run for three months, during which passengers will be able to use the service for free.
“We’re looking forward to receiving guest feedback about our inflight connectivity over the next three months to ensure we are able to offer the best possible service in the sky,” says group executive of Virgin Australia Airlines John Thomas.
The airline adds that it will finalise a business model for the system's use following the trials, indicating that it will likely charge for the service.
Virgin's trials of onboard wi-fi come only weeks after Qantas started trials of its own ViaSat system on one of its 737s.
