Swiss business aviation services company TAG Aviation is to open its fourth European fixed-base operation (FBO) this month, at Madrid’s Torrejón airport.
TAG Aviation declines to comment on its plans for the site. However, it is understood that the handling facility will launch with a staff of 10, following the establishment of private terminals in Berlin and Farnborough alongside its headquarters in Geneva. The move makes TAG the fifth FBO at the airport, 10km (6 miles) from the city’s international hub Barajas, despite uncertainty over Torrejón’s future as a business aviation airport. Business aviation is also banned from peak hour slots at Barajas between 06:00 and 23:59 while a new terminal and runway are constructed, and the government yet to set a timescale for a return to Barajas. It is considering using Getafe air force base 30km south of the city as a base for private aircraft.
