A TransAsia Airways ATR 72-600 turboprop has crashed into the Keelung River shortly after takeoff from Taipei Songshan airport.
Pictures have surfaced online showing the wrecked fuselage of the aircraft lying belly up on the river. It bears the registration B-22816.
The airline could not be contacted for details. It is unclear how many passengers and crew were onboard, and whether they are any fatalities. Pictures however show some survivors in life jackets evacuating from the wreckage.
Local media reports say the aircraft was on the Taipei Songshan-Kinmen route when the incident happened past 10am. They add that the turboprop had crashed into a viaduct before landing in the river.
Flightglobal’s Ascend Fleets database shows that the turboprop was built in 2014 and owned by TransAsia Airways.
