Brazil's TAM is planning an expansion of its European network and is vying with rival Varig to take over routes from embattled Brazilian carrier VASP.
The airline currently serves Paris Charles de Gaulle twice a day - one service is operated in its own right by an Airbus A330-200, while the other is flown by Air France under a codeshare. The airline is eyeing certain VASP routes to take over, at the request of the Brazilian government.
TAM plans to serve Frankfurt from June, and Madrid from the end of next year or in early 2002. The Brazilian airline is also evaluating services to Copenhagen or Amsterdam, although plans for a Milan service have been dropped for the time being.
