TAP Air Portugal has awarded Messier-Bugatti a 10-year contract, effective from July 2000, to supply wheels and carbon brakes for its fleet of 28 Airbus A319/A320 twinjets. Messier-Bugatti, a subsidiary of the Snecma group of France, is a world leader in its core businesses of wheels, brakes and braking control systems and was already the provisional supplier for 16 A319s and six A320s. The airline originally chose a competitor's equipment in July 1996. However, since signing a first contract with Messier-Bugatti in November 1997, TAP Air Portugal's management and pilots have been impressed by their performance and the responsiveness of their product support teams. As a result, TAP Air has opted for Messier-Bugatti's Sepcarb III-PLUS carbon brakes, which the company describes as the most economical of their kind.
